2022 INFINITI QX60 Increases Towing Capacity to 6,000 Pounds

Pre-production model shown.
The 2022 INFINITI QX60 has been reengineered to provide more exceptional performance than ever before with the use of the award-winning 295-horsepower 3.5L V6 engine mated to the all-new 9-speed automatic transmission that we spoke about in a previous blog post.
The result of that pairing? The INFINITI QX60 towing capacity has increased up to a maximum of 6,000 lbs for the 2022 model, which is a 20% gain when compared to this luxury SUV’s predecessor. This is more than plenty to trailer your favorite things in North New Jersey & beyond including:
- Campers as large as a 22-foot Airstream trailer
- Motor bikes & motorcycles
- Small motorized vehicles like ATVs & Polaris Slingshots
- Personal watercraft such as boats & jet skis
“The all-new INFINITI QX60 was designed to exceed expectations and perform not only with poise, but also power. The uprated towing capacity gives families the confidence to get where they want to be, without having to leave the things they need behind.”
-Eric Rigaux, General Manager, Product Strategy and Planning, INFINITI

Rigorous Testing For the 2022 INFINITI QX60
According to Heather Kniep, who is the senior project engineer at INFINITI’s Arizona Testing Center, test engineers with more than a decade of experience each approached her and said the 2022 INFINITI QX60 was one of the best vehicles they’ve ever driven for towing. In addition, the testing took place over a record number of days that were hotter than 110°F.
And the towing capacity was not affected by the blistering heat. Heather Kniep herself was really impressed with how the QX60 was able to accelerate up hilly roads even with all 6,000 lbs of cargo trailering behind it and the same goes for this new INFINITI’s braking capability.
In addition to overly hot temperatures, The 2022 INFINITI QX60 performed quite well other areas of North America that provided real-world extreme driving conditions consisting of:
- Frigidly cold temperatures found in Alaska
- High-altitude roads found in Colorado
- Steep streets found in San Francisco
- Adventurous off-road terrain in Utah
- The Davis Dam, which is universally recognized as the most grueling towing gauntlet a vehicle can go through

Brandon LaBorde, who is a member of the Chassis Dynamic Group, at INFINITI’s Arizona Testing Center, stated that the 2022 INFINITI QX60 got its maximum towing capacity in a multitude of driving conditions such as smooth asphalt, concrete, dirt, rough gravel, washboard surfaces & deep potholes.
Heather Kniep states that vehicles like the QX60 receive thousands of hours & miles of testing to simulate how they’ll perform over 20-plus years of ownership. Some of the onboard features that support the INFINITI QX60’s updated maximum towing capacity revamped cooling & stability assistants including:
- Uprated transmission oil cooler
- Integrated hitch receiver
- Trailer-tuned stability programming
- Dedicated prewiring harnesses
