All-New 9-Speed Automatic Transmission Debuts in 2022 INFINITI QX60

INFINITI has just announced the first new feature that will be offered for the upcoming 2022 QX60: a 9-speed automatic transmission. This will replace the current model’s electronically-controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a manual shift mode, which offers sequentially selectable manual gearshifts.

This all-new transmission, developed with supplier ZF, is designed to give you confident power when behind the wheel of the 2022 INFINITI QX60, whether you’re driving around town or a major highway like the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.

What the 2022 INFINITI QX60’s Transmission Has to Offer

The 9-speed automatic transmission provides the 2022 INFINITI QX60 with a direct & linear acceleration feel. It’ll give you more confidence whether you want a quick start as the light turns green or are trying to go through a turn quickly by simply downshifting once you press on the gas pedal, allowing you to move forward smoothly.

Also being offered in this transmission is a larger ratio spread of almost 10:1 that makes it possible to maximize fuel economy while driving on the highway. Mated to this transmission is the QX60’s 3.5L V6 engine that’s currently rated at 295 hp & 270 lb/ft of torque.

Another reason you won’t miss the outgoing CVT’s manual shift mode because the 2022 INFINITI QX60’s transmission comes with a Sports Mode. This setting is designed to give you a race car-like response with a smooth feel upon acceleration & hold gear for longer for a quicker acceleration time.

The enhancements in response, capabilities, ride & handling come from the engineers at INFINITI’s Arizona Testing Center, who put the new QX60 transmission through rigorous evaluations. This includes being tested in severe heat in temperatures above 122 degrees Fahrenheit, with rides in Death Valley.

Ride comfort is also enhanced thanks to the all-new 9-speed automatic transmission’s smooth gear shifting, along with INFINITI”s Active Torque Mount that isolates engine vibrations outside the cabin & reduces interior noise. Not to mention the shift-by-wire system, opening up more usable space inside & around the center console of this 3-row SUV.
